As I mentioned yesterday, this weekend was full of rain and I spent most of the weekend indoors. While I was sitting around (after the closet clean-out of course) I decided to look up ways to make my own skirt. I got my sewing machine for Christmas with the idea of someday making some of my own clothes to wear. I have made scarves and pajama pants but I wanted to start making things I could wear to the office. A skirt was an obvious choice so I started looking up ways to make one.
I found this link on the Etsy blog with a video and instructions on how to make a skirt in an hour-- what a perfect rainy day activity! I ran to the fabric store and picked out this cute interlocking chain fabric and starting cutting. I was so excited to try out my new creation so I modeled it for my roommate Saturday night. We both decided that it had way too much fabric attached so I decided to take it apart and try something a little different. I ripped one of the seams and decided to take off about 9 inches of fabric. I then re-stitched the seam together and now have this final product. The only catch is my seams are not on either side of the skirt because I didn't take fabric off both sides. For my first skirt project, I am pretty excited. It's not perfect…but it was definitely wearable for a day in the office.
