High Five for Friday

This week was full of wonderful things but I did my best to narrow it down to the top 5.

1. My car came back from the repair shop and looks BRAND NEW. A few weeks ago, I went out for happy hour with some friends and parked my car in a lot downtown. When getting back to my car, I noticed that someone backed into it and the door was smashed in. I was heartbroken to see that my car had been hurt and immediately started asking around for suggestions on where to take her. After listening to my dad, I took her to get repaired last week and got the car back on Wednesday. I am so impressed with the work and am so SO happy to have my car back.

2. Last week, my BFF and I were at a friend's bar and started talking to a group of guys. They were all married but insisted on chatting with us for a long time. We ended up talking about carrot cake (I have no idea how we got on this topic) and one of them told us he makes the best carrot cake in the world. Doubting him, he told us he would make us a cake and drop it off at the bar this week. We still didn't believe him until my friend text me yesterday and told me someone dropped a cake off for "a girl that just moved back from Washington DC". Needless to say, it WAS the best carrot cake I have ever eaten.

3. My new monitor came for work this week. It is huge and beautiful and I love it! It actually arrived the same day I got my car back and it felt like it was better than Christmas. This things is going to make working from home even better.

4. Frappuccino happy hour. Nothing beats half-priced Starbucks for an afternoon pick-me-up.

5. Work trips. I am currently sitting in the airport waiting to head to Vegas for the day. It's my first trip ever where I am leaving and returning all in the same day. It's so nice traveling with just a purse with my laptop. Yay!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

High Five For Friday

My last week in DC has been extremely busy with trying to see everyone before leaving and cram in every last-minute adventure. It was hard to pick my top five for the week but here are some of my faves:
1. Meeting Cookie Monster. My team at work and I had a blast having a mini photo shoot with Cookie on Wednesday. Team four eyes forever. Our work conference kicked off on Wednesday with many sessions, speakers and meetings but I have to say that Cookie definitely stole the show. Oh, and the fact that I got to meet Ann O'Leary was pretty awesome as well.

2. Going to my second concert in DC. Last week, a friend asked me if I wanted to go to a concert before leaving town. I, of course, said yes and am so glad I did. We had a blast at the Fillmore (which is beautiful by the way) and ended up having such a fun night. It made the next day at work a bit of a struggle but I stuck with the motto of the past few weeks: YOLO.

3. Visiting the Library of Congress. A few weeks ago I mentioned creating a bucket list of things to do before leaving DC. Sadly, I only did two of the items on the list. What I didn't realize is that the list would force me to come up with a whole bunch of other things I wanted to do in the city before leaving. One of which was visiting the Library of Congress. I have been wanting to walk inside this building since I was an intern on Capitol Hill over five years ago. Luckily I had the opportunity to see this building before heading back west.

4. Heading to the Hill.
It's almost like my DC life has come full circle. When I first got to DC I was working as an intern on the Hill and this past week I was heading to the Hill to help inform staffers. It was so fitting to snap a pic while walking the halls of Congress.

5. Saying goodbye. It's definitely been a bittersweet week-- saying goodbye to friends from all over and also preparing for new beginnings. I hate to think that this is goodbye and am choosing to think of it more as see you soon. I'm not going to lie, a lot of tears have been shed this week but I am looking forward to all of the fun and excitement ahead. I truly hope this is not the last time I will be seeing all of my DC friends and I really plan to improve my long distance communication skills and stay in touch with you all. Thank you for every experience and opportunity you have gone through with me over the last five years. I could not have asked for anything more.

High Five for Friday

This week has been nothing short of a whirlwind and after Monday's post about stopping to smell the roses, I decided to take a look back at my week and come up with my top 5 things:

1. Going to New Jersey. Honestly, this was one of the best parts of my week for many reasons. Not only did I get to meet the people I will be working with after next week, but I got to learn all about my new job, new company and ride the train. For those of you that have never ridden a train, add that to your bucket list asap.

2.  Dinner with my "Bachelor" girls. For the past few months, a group of about 10 of us (the same group as our fantasy football league) has gotten together every Monday for a viewing of "The Bachelor" and some wine and laughs. This week was the perfect send off as we all went out to dinner at Carlyle and shared more great times together. I am seriously going to miss this group of ladies when I leave.

3. Going away parties. Between dinner with the girls, my work HH and an upcoming going away party tomorrow I can't express how bittersweet it is to see everyone all in one week. I am excited to see all of my DC friends but it's sad to know that I am moving. But as someone told me earlier this week, distance is no longer an excuse. You can always stay in touch with technology.

4. Old friends. After announcing my move back to the west coast I have heard from people I haven't heard from in years. It is exciting to know that I have so many people to reconnect with after I settle in.

5. DC Sunrise. I will never tire of waking up to this. Definitely something I will miss when I move. Good thing I am "taking it all in" this week.
