I hardly ever buy clothes at Target for full price because I know they allllways go on sale, but when I spotted this sweater a few weeks ago, I couldn't be bothered to wait. I grabbed it off the rack immediately (also, it was the only small) and prayed that the weather would get cold enough to wear this baby all over town. Well, my prayers were halfway answered when I wore this sweater early one morning last week, but sadly, the temps rose up to the 80s and I had to change into something a little less warm.

Also, this necklace. I have been obsessed with it since the day I bought it about a year ago and I had a chat with my friend Melinda this weekend in Houston about how it is considered the "basic bitch" necklace. I had no idea and now I love it even more. If you've missed out on this new term all over  lately, please let me enlighten you here.

On Friday, I mentioned how I've started looking for different ways to incorporate red into my wardrobe. Well, I took the plunge since then and bought my first red piece: this scarf. While it's not 100% red, I kind of love it. It makes me want to pull out my puffy vests and boots and wear it all winter long. But the great news is that it's also really lightweight so it was easy to wear last weekend while it was still uber-hot. I mean, is this summer over yet? I realllllly want to wear layers.

Now that I have bought my first red piece, I guess I am on a roll. I ordered a dress and bought a shirt earlier this week. It turns out, the dress doesn't fit like I expected so I'll have to send it back, but the red shirt is super cute and this may be my new color obsession. Who knew red was so much fun to wear... yet also so hard to find? Hopefully stores stock up for the holidays soon so I can keep adding to my new collection.

After waiting weeks and weeks to finally have an opportunity to wear my new favorite boots, I gave up on the weather and decided to wear them, even though it's still crazy hot outside. I fell in love with these boots about two months ago and was so excited when they arrived on my doorstep. They fit perfectly and I am dying for the temps to drop so I can wear them everyday. Seriously, I may be in them every day.

I also decided to try something a little different and wear a baseball cap with this outfit. I wanted to keep it really simple even with all the bling up top. I always think I look terrible in hats and love how cute they are on everyone else so I scooped this one up while on a work trip a few weeks ago and decided to play with the look. Well, I still think I look stupid in hats but I get an A for effort, right?

As temperatures are falling (everywhere across the country but here) I am seeing more and more plaid popping up on my  Instagram feed, facebook timeline and in ads all over tv. While I would like to think fall is here, the hot weather is preventing me from wearing flannel and jeans and boots every. single. day. Instead, I decided to switch things up and pair one of my favorite flannel tops with my white shorts to keep the look a little more summery. I also decided to finally wear my new boots that have been staring at me every day for weeks begging to be taken out of the house. I didn't love them when I saw them online but I decided they may be a great way to switch up my look this fall. Well, I have to say, buying them was a GREAT decision. They are suuuper comfortable and I can't wait to pair them with tights and boots and dresses. Now we just need the fall temps to show up and I'll be all set.

This Striped Tee

For the past few weeks this shirt has been popping up on blogs and Instagram feeds that I follow with other bloggers raving about what a great shirt it is. Most of the time I chalk that up to paid sponsorships or gifted clothing... but guys, believe the hype. This shirt is awesome. And no one is paying me to say that.

I picked up this shirt at Old Navy over Labor Day weekend and have pretty much not taken it off since. Seriously. My mom even asked me if I was in a "style rut" because I wore this shirt so many times. It is striped, thicker than a normal tee, and has a cute little pocket. What is there not to love about this shirt? Oh, and you can pick it up for under $20.

Classic Colors

Last weekend, my stepmom and I were asked to help out a family friend who was looking to update her wardrobe. We decided to meet up on Sunday for shopping and a late lunch. When my stepmom came to my door to pick me up, we realized we were in almost matching outfits: white shirts with khaki shorts. I mean, I knew these were classic colors but I never really thought about this same outfit in 30ish years (or on someone about 30 years older than me). Knowing how classic this look is just made me realize how often I wear simple, classic colors and just add jewelry to dress them up. Nothing beats a timeless look!

September

Now that I've turned my calendar to September I am officially in fall mode. Pumpkin candles are lit around the house, I am dying to wear all the new boots I recently ordered and I plan on spending lots of time over the next few months curled up on the couch with a cozy blanket and getting back into some great tv shows. While I have loved everything this summer has offered me, I am getting pretty excited about boots and jeans and lots of layers. Also, please remind me of this in, say, January, when I am cursing the cold and wishing it was summer again.

How to Dress up Loungewear

Oh look, a sweatshirt. I never wear those. This seems to be my go-to these days, especially because I've been blasting my AC at home. When we were in San Francisco this past weekend, I ran into a store (in between bar hopping with my friends) to see if I could do some damage to my credit card in under ten minutes. Success. I found myself in Brandy Melville and fell in love with just about everything in the store. Including this sweatshirt. It is a "one size fits all" and it is incredibly comfortable. I have even considered sleeping in it. I love finding new stores to shop in.

But, we all know that wearing a sweatshirt out isn't the fanciest of outfits, right? So, I decided to pair this heavenly top with a pair of bright jeans and some chunky heels. I think that these shoes look great with dressed down pieces and really help dress up an outfit. Plus, wearing a sweatshirt out of the house and still looking pulled together is my new favorite thing.

So, last Friday, I woke up extra early (read: 4:45am) to head to the airport and fly to Vegas for a daylong work trip. I decided to shoot these pictures before flying down south and realized how hard it is to take photos when the sun isn't up. Oops. At least they halfway turned out.

I got to Vegas bright and early Friday morning and then grabbed some quick coffee and bagels with my coworkers before a day in the office. We stopped midday for a delicious lunch here and then went back to finish up our day. At the end of the day, my boss suggested I switch my flight home so we could go see Absinthe at Caesars. I excitedly changed my flight to the last flight home and prepared for the show. Once we got to Caesars, I realized that there was no way I was going to make it to the airport in time to catch my flight flight so I changed my flight (again) to Saturday morning.

After the show, we decided to grab a late night dinner and then head back to the hotel. Sadly, I had nothing on me but my computer and this outfit so we stopped and grabbed some toothpaste and contact solution before checking into my fancy room.

It was pretty much the best work trip yet. I heart Vegas sometimes.
