Okay ladies and gents, here it is: the red, white and black outfit I have been talking about for weeks. First, I was looking for red pieces, then I found my first, and now here it is in all it's glory: the red outfit I needed for my trip to Houston. I am so excited about how this look came together even though it is nothing like I first imagined.

I ordered a red dress a few weeks ago and planned on wearing a simple shift dress with a black and white beaded necklace with simple heels. Well, that plan went out the window as soon as that dress arrived. Plus, replacing it was a nightmare and I finally gave up on the hunt for the perfect red dress. Especially when I spotted this bright red top at TJ Maxx last week. It is the perfect shade of red and knew it would be great with a fun chunky necklace. And boy did I get lucky with this necklace.

I searched high and low for the right white necklace and ended up buying a couple to take home and try on with this top. Well, this big ball necklace was the winner and I couldn't be more thrilled. I have wanted a big white necklace for awhile and now that I have it I am wishing I bought it months ago so I could have worn it all summer. And how fun is that sparkly ball in the middle? Obsessed.

Last weekend, my stepmom and I were asked to help out a family friend who was looking to update her wardrobe. We decided to meet up on Sunday for shopping and a late lunch. When my stepmom came to my door to pick me up, we realized we were in almost matching outfits: white shirts with khaki shorts. I mean, I knew these were classic colors but I never really thought about this same outfit in 30ish years (or on someone about 30 years older than me). Knowing how classic this look is just made me realize how often I wear simple, classic colors and just add jewelry to dress them up. Nothing beats a timeless look!

Okay, I really have no idea what has come over me this week. Navy stripes... three times? I mean, I knew I loved them but I had no idea I was this obsessed. Nor did I have any clue that I had this many navy and white pieces of clothing. But, I did switch up my look a bit here with this yellow jeans. I have shared my love for these jeans on the blog before, but I am so happy every time I wear them. I think it is a combo of how comfortable they are mixed with the fun bright color. They were perfect for Easter brunch with the family.

Weekend Errands

This past weekend was spent unpacking boxes, running errands and catching up with old friends. I spent most of Friday night and Saturday unpacking all of my boxes and then Sunday was spent running around town picking up new tables and little things I needed around the house. We started off Sunday with the washer and dryer delivery, followed up with coffee and crepes at the local coffee shop down the street. After walking back home, we hit the road and visited (what seemed like) every furniture store in town. I could not be more excited about the house finally coming together.

I'm not sure if it's the few days of nice weather or the fact that things have been extremely crazy (in every aspect of my life) but I have been turning to dresses almost every day this week. While I am more of a skirt + shirt kind of girl, the ease of a dress has made getting ready for work this week a breeze. Not to mention, the fact that I am wearing these dresses sans tights is making me one happy camper.

Also I'm pretty excited to be featured on Three-fer Thursday today!

Cape Coat

When Rosewholesale contacted me and told me I could style anything from their website, this cape coat immediately stole my heart and I knew it was the perfect piece. I have been dying to try out this cape coat look for awhile now, but as happens so frequently, I get scared to commit to a new style and stick to what I already have. Not to mention, I have an overwhelming number of coats in my closet these days. 

Well, I am so excited to say that I have tested this thing out and LOVE it. It is perfect for an extra layer of warmth, yet you still have your arms out to make it easy to grab your phone or a cup of coffee... even while running errands or driving around town. I can't explain how great this coat is. If you're still hesitant on trying out these capes, stop waiting. They are fabulous. Oh, and this one is available for less than $20. Can't beat that!

Work Event

Very rarely do I talk about what I do for work here on the blog, but I wanted to share some photos from yesterday's event. I threw on this outfit (and was lucky enough to be able to wear jeans to work) and attended an event on Capitol Hill for my organization. I went to take photos and live tweet and post images on our social media accounts. It was a perfect day to be outside in the sun and a great opportunity to chat with members of Congress and see them support our mission. 

The event included a giant chutes and ladders board for members of Congress to spin and play the game to learn more about early education. My favorite photo of the day was of Senator Casey counting hula hoops with a child outside the Capitol Building:

5 Ways to Wear White Before Labor Day: Day 1

You can't wear white after Labor Day.

Who says that? Many people today believe this is an old way of thinking and love wearing white into the fall season. I am still on the fence about wearing white during the fall but some of these pieces will help you make a seamless transition into the next season. I have decided to honor the color by posting five ways to wear white before the end of summer. Each post this week will feature another white item and how I love to style it.

White jeans are one of the best things a girl can have in her closet. They are so versatile and one the best white pieces to transition from summer to fall. They can easily be paired with darker colors or warmer sweaters and make the seamless transition. These jeans are one thing I will definitely wear after Labor Day. Plus, it helps that they are extremely comfortable.
