After a crazy, fun weekend, I am heading back to the skies today and flying home. I could not have asked for a better week in Houston but am so excited to sleep in my own bed tonight... as always happens after a long week of travel. Because I feel like I am in the air so much these days, I have come up with my go-to travel outfit: comfy jeans, flats, a baggy sweater, a scarf and a huge purse. All of these play a small role in spending the day in comfort while cooped up for hours on a plane.

I am a huge HUGE fan of flying with a scarf because I am always freezing on the airplane. I actually wore this outfit last week on my trip down to Houston and found myself using this scarf as a blanket. It is great for versatility and it's super lightweight. I am telling you, scarves are quickly becoming my favorite article of clothing.

Also, the other key piece in this outfit is a huge purse. I like to check my bag (thanks, Southwest! Love the free bags!) and carry just my purse through TSA and around the airport. The problem I have is I travel with my planner, my iPad and my computer. Plus I like to bring an (empty) water bottle and some snacks because airport food is just never appealing to me. Well, except overpriced Jamba Juice.

After trying this shirt one with about 100 pairs of pants last week, I finally pulled out my freshly-hemmed (by yours truly) Citizens and opted for a laid-back date look. I originally envisioned this shirt with white shorts or my leather skirt, but decided that it's just as cute when dressed down with a comfy pair of jeans and sandals.

I originally spotted this top on the LOFT Instagram feed and thought it was just about the cutest shirt I had seen in years. Insta-marketing totally works. I found myself in the store later that day and walking out with this beauty in my bag.

Have you ever fallen in love with something on Instagram and bought it asap? Please say yes. I hope I'm not alone on this.

Classic Colors

Last weekend, my stepmom and I were asked to help out a family friend who was looking to update her wardrobe. We decided to meet up on Sunday for shopping and a late lunch. When my stepmom came to my door to pick me up, we realized we were in almost matching outfits: white shirts with khaki shorts. I mean, I knew these were classic colors but I never really thought about this same outfit in 30ish years (or on someone about 30 years older than me). Knowing how classic this look is just made me realize how often I wear simple, classic colors and just add jewelry to dress them up. Nothing beats a timeless look!

This weekend turned out to be a fabulous one even though I went into it with very few plans. I kicked off the weekend with a stop at Dunkin and then went into the city for the NBC Health Expo. I got to meet Al Roker and cross that moment off my bucket list. After a few more hours of wandering around, I went home for a much needed nap after watching Argo, which I've been wanting to see for years. I went shopping for a bit after the nap and then came home, got ready and went out for a fun night with friends.

Sunday was full of fun as well. After getting my necessary chores out of the way, I showered, threw on my 49ers jersey and met up with some friends for a Sunday Funday in DC. We watched the Niners win and celebrated throughout the afternoon. I forgot how much fun Sunday Fundays are! I wrapped up the weekend with another nap, the Golden Globes and the new episode of Revenge.

Nothing beats a fabulous weekend! Hope you had a great one!

A Bit of Color

Earlier this week, I opened the cutest little red box from Berricle to find this perfect silver ring. I have been wearing so much gold lately that I forgot how much I love silver, especially when paired with sparkly things. I saw this ring on their website and knew it would get so much use with the rest of my jewelry. It is simple, yet a great way to add some sparkle to your outfit. It also can easily pair with gold so I can wear it daily-- whether I am wearing gold or silver. If you are looking for some affordable new jewelry, I recommend checking out their site as so many of their pieces are available for under $50.

I 've also been wanting to wear this dress for awhile now but each time I pull it out of my closet, something goes wrong. Most days it was just rain in the way but I knew that I couldn't style it the way I had planned. I am obsessed with the neckline on the dress and was so excited to finally add more color to my daily black and white routine.

With all of the leaves beginning to change colors around me, I was inspired to do something I haven't done in years... dye my hair brown. I am not really sure where the actual idea came from, but it's something I've been toying with for the past few months. I think that with the cool weather hitting the day I went to the salon, in addition to getting excited for dark nail polish and lots of layers, I knew it was the perfect time. I wasn't sure how dark I wanted to go but I left my appearance in the hands of my stylist and let her work her magic.

I walked out of the salon feeling quite unsure but I am excited for this next chapter in my life.

Here's to blondes not having more fun!

Summer-ize

Yesterday I mentioned how easy dresses are to throw on in the summer and leave the house in a hurry. I decided to keep the theme going and wear another dress today. I pulled this dress out of the back of my closet and I feel like I haven't seen it in years (maybe I haven't?). This dress is typically one I only wear in the winter because of the material, but wanted to try dressing it up for summer today with a fun scarf. This scarf is probably my favorite scarf and I am always looking for an opportunity to wear it. Something about the colors and how light it is make it the perfect scarf for any time of the year.

How do you try to summer-ize winter pieces?

As I said yesterday, wearing my hair down is my favorite way to style my hair. Because we are finally getting a break from the humidity, I decided to try wearing my hair down again. What I didn't plan for: wind. I am pretty sure wind is one of my least favorite types of weather, no matter the temperature.

Enough about the weather and more about this outfit. I scored this fab top at Current Boutique the other day for only $15! I love finding tops like this that can be worn on the weekends or dressed up for a day in the office (which I ended up doing with a pair of orange pants). Not to mention, it goes with everything. Plus, the texture at the top adds some appeal that I could not pass up.
