One of the highlights of my West Coast trip last week was spending some time in Old Sacramento (CA) because it was the only place on our itinerary that I'd never really spent any time. I forgot how fun it is to wander around older cities and how much I enjoy sightseeing. My mom actually drove down to Sacramento the day we arrived so we spent the night getting lost and finding some delicious Italian food. I can't wait to go back the next time I find myself in Sacramento.
Today I am heading back to work and finally settling down with no expected travel in the immediate future. It's so nice to know that I can finally relax and not have to worry about packing another suitcase.

Leather Skirt At Work

After spending a week in Montana, followed up by a long weekend, waking up and heading into work yesterday was harder than expected. I woke up with little inspiration and no idea what to expect for my week. I knew it was going to be busy as we are prepping for another upcoming travel week, but I just felt rather blah when I woke up. It may have been the fog in the air or the lack of routine for the past week, but I knew that I wanted to be comfortable for a day back in the office.

I have been trying to wear this sweater for a few weeks now but it's been a little too warm each day I've pulled out. Today was just cool enough to throw it on with this faux leather skirt and be perfectly comfortable all day. While it was a busy, busy day, it was so nice to get back into a routine. Sadly I will only have three more days of this before I hit the road for another trip to the West Coast, but I am quite excited to be adding some personal time in there as well and visit all my friends and family back home.

Summer to Fall

Dress: Kintage (store closing, everything 50% off)  Sweater: Ann Taylor  Belt: The Limited  Shoes: Guess  Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban  Bracelets: Stella and Dot here and here  Rings: Gifted

After re-discovering my textured skirt yesterday, I decided it was time to finally wear the textured dress I ordered a few weeks ago. Pairing it with black instantly took this lavender dress from summer to fall and I could not be more excited. I see a lot of this dress in my future, especially with tights and perhaps my leather jacket. Something I've yet to pull out this season.
As the weather continues to cool, I've made it my mission to wear more of my summer pieces into the fall by pairing them with new accessories.
What is your favorite way to take clothes from summer to fall?

A Little Bit Wild

One of my favorite ways to transition to fall is pulling out my scarf collection. I have somehow accumulated upwards of 30 in the past couple of years and now that the temperatures are cooler in the mornings, it is the perfect time to dig them out of my closet.

This scarf has become one of my favorites in recent months and I still love that I got it for only $5 from a NYC street vendor. Plus, it is just the right amount of wild. I love adding small animal print styles to simple jeans + tee.

Now I  just need a pair of leopard flats and I'm all set for the season.

Work Event

Very rarely do I talk about what I do for work here on the blog, but I wanted to share some photos from yesterday's event. I threw on this outfit (and was lucky enough to be able to wear jeans to work) and attended an event on Capitol Hill for my organization. I went to take photos and live tweet and post images on our social media accounts. It was a perfect day to be outside in the sun and a great opportunity to chat with members of Congress and see them support our mission.

The event included a giant chutes and ladders board for members of Congress to spin and play the game to learn more about early education. My favorite photo of the day was of Senator Casey counting hula hoops with a child outside the Capitol Building:

(Faux) Leather Skirt

Last Friday, I showed off some great transitional pieces for fall, one of which was a leather a-line skirt. I couldn't seem to get that skirt off my mind and was so excited when I came across this (faux) leather skirt over the weekend. It was a bargain at only $20 and I love how it really looks like leather-- a few people at work even asked if it was real.

I paired it with a conservative top and some sparkly jewelry for an easy-to-wear office look.

What ways to do you wear leather to make it office-appropriate?

Gold Obsession

Top: Forever 21  Jeans: Rock & Republic  Necklace: Banana Republic  Shoes: Guess  Bag: Apt. 9 similar here  Watch: Michael Kors  Bracelets: Flea Market and Stella and Dot

I am not sure what it is lately but I keep adding more and more gold jewelry to my life. I ordered this necklace a few weeks ago from Banana Republic and had no idea how much I was going to love it. I threw it in my (online) cart to bring my total over $50 for free shipping.
(Now you know my secret to online shopping... I hate paying for shipping.)

I ordered the necklace and thought it was something I may or may not keep, but knew that my total was now enough to qualify for free shipping. The moment I opened the box, I knew I was not going to be returning it. It is the PERFECT gold chain. I have been looking at tons over the past few months and so many of them remind me of rappers. And even though I've done my best to avoid the rapper look, I've still been called 2 Chainz (and Ice T) on occasion. I just can't help how much I love gold jewelry!

Maybe I should become a rapper.

Colorblind

Top: Banana Republic  Skirt: H&M similar here  Shoes: Guess  Necklace: J.Crew Factory  Watch: Michael Kors  Bracelets: Stella and Dot here and here  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban  Rings: Gifted

As you've probably noticed, I can't get enough of black and white outfits. I seem to wear these basic colors on a pretty routine basis...

Well, I think it's about time to confess my secret on the blog: I am colorblind.
Seriously.

Usually when I tell people that I am colorblind they laugh and don't believe me. I then have to find one of those online color tests and try to explain that I don't see any images in the colored dots. It's quite a process but it's pretty obvious when I try to discuss color. Like the time I tried to say that I am not 100% colorblind and I knew that my shirt was grey and yellow... and it was green. Oops.

As I said, I am not 100% colorblind but there are many colors that I cannot tell apart. Blue and purple are typically a struggle for me, as well as some greens and browns.

A common question I hear is "How can you be a fashion blogger if you're colorblind?" Well, I do my best. I tend to stick to basic colors and I have a pretty good idea of how things look together. Some  days, I am sure I make mistakes but fashion is all about confidence, right?
