Yesterday was the first time I had an excuse to dress up during the work day since I started my new job. I was invited to join the local PRSA chapter for lunch and was so excited to throw on a dress and shower before noon. I know, embarrassing. I am so happy I was able to meet such wonderful people in the community and am already looking forward to the next event.

A Little Lavender

lavender

1/ 2/ 3/ 4/ 5/ 6

Yesterday a friend reached out to me with a dilemma: where can you find a cute statement necklace in lavender? Well, if you have every tried to find something that is lavender and made for someone under the age of 75, you know how hard that can be. I went on a mission to help her find something decent to wear with a LBD. After she and I weighed the pros and cons of each, she ended up ordering #6 above. It should be the perfect amount of lavender and you can't beat the price tag. Although, part of me really wants to order #1 and #3... but I am scared to commit to the color. I know it is a perfect color for spring but I feel like I never really wear purple. Especially lavender.

Are you a fan of lavender? What is your favorite way to wear it?

Oh, and happy Pi day. In case you aren't following me on twitter, here is the amazing video I discovered yesterday.

The Girl in the Yellow Coat

Top: Banana Republic  Necklace: Stella and Dot  Jacket: Target similar here  Hat: H&M  Boots: Target  Tights: Poof! similar here  Skirt: Forever 21

It's no secret that this coat stole my heart at the end of last year (see here) and it's amazing to me that it's made so few appearances on the blog. I tend to wear this coat just about every day lately, except when it's snowing... like today. We are expecting up to 8 inches here in DC. We will see if that actually plays out, but here's to hoping for another snow day tomorrow. Nothing beats spending at day at home in pjs... even if I am still working.

Simply Stated

Dress: Target similar here  Tights: Target  Boots: Frye  Bag: Rebecca Minkoff  Necklace: Stella and Dot similar here and on sale!  Watch: Michael Kors  Bracelets: Stella and Dot and Alex and Ani  Sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Some days the perfect outfit is a simple LBD and a statement necklace-- my go-to on hectic mornings. The past few days have been full of early meetings and longer commutes so there has been less time for getting ready and more time stuck in traffic. Yesterday it took me over an hour to get to my first meeting on time. It definitely made me thankful for my normal 8 minute commute to work.

Blurred Lines

Top: Banana Republic similar here  Skirt: The Limited  Vest: Forever 21 very similar  Shoes: Guess  Bag: Phillip Lim for Target  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban  Watch: Michael Kors  Necklace: J.Crew Factory Bracelets: Stella and Dot here and here

No matter how many times I play with the settings on my camera I have the hardest time photographing stripes. It seems that no matter what I do, the lines always turn out blurry.
Maybe Robin Thicke has the same trouble?
Temperatures have been in the mid-seventies for the past couple of days and I took it as a sign to pull out my favorite denim vest from summer. It is one of my favorite items in my closet and was so happy to pair it with a pencil skirt for a completely different look. Also, I had just the right amount of layering to get through the different temperatures heading to and from work.

MIX MATCH

(Faux) Leather Skirt

Top: J.Crew  Skirt: Lily White similar here  Necklace: J.Crew Factory similar here  Bracelet: J.Crew similar here  Shoes: Guess  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Last Friday, I showed off some great transitional pieces for fall, one of which was a leather a-line skirt. I couldn't seem to get that skirt off my mind and was so excited when I came across this (faux) leather skirt over the weekend. It was a bargain at only $20 and I love how it really looks like leather-- a few people at work even asked if it was real.

I paired it with a conservative top and some sparkly jewelry for an easy-to-wear office look.

What ways to do you wear leather to make it office-appropriate?

Colorblind

Top: Banana Republic  Skirt: H&M similar here  Shoes: Guess  Necklace: J.Crew Factory  Watch: Michael Kors  Bracelets: Stella and Dot here and here  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban  Rings: Gifted

As you've probably noticed, I can't get enough of black and white outfits. I seem to wear these basic colors on a pretty routine basis...

Well, I think it's about time to confess my secret on the blog: I am colorblind.
Seriously.

Usually when I tell people that I am colorblind they laugh and don't believe me. I then have to find one of those online color tests and try to explain that I don't see any images in the colored dots. It's quite a process but it's pretty obvious when I try to discuss color. Like the time I tried to say that I am not 100% colorblind and I knew that my shirt was grey and yellow... and it was green. Oops.

As I said, I am not 100% colorblind but there are many colors that I cannot tell apart. Blue and purple are typically a struggle for me, as well as some greens and browns.

A common question I hear is "How can you be a fashion blogger if you're colorblind?" Well, I do my best. I tend to stick to basic colors and I have a pretty good idea of how things look together. Some  days, I am sure I make mistakes but fashion is all about confidence, right?

A Splash of Color

Top: Forever 21 similar here  Jeans: Gap  Necklace: c/o ShopBevel  Shoes: Guess  Sunglasses: Ray- Ban  Watch: Michael Kors  Bag: Tory Burch similar here  Bracelet: Stella and Dot

When this necklace arrived in my mailbox, I was so excited about the neon colors. I have been eyeing ways to incorporate more bright jewelry into my wardrobe and this necklace really hit the nail on the head. I was leaning towards buying a pair of bright dangle-y earrings, but after wearing this necklace, I am so glad I did not. I am definitely a girl who loves studs and long earrings would be something I would never wear. (I have multiple pairs of long earrings that I have yet to wear, oops!)

I paired this necklace with a maroon top before wearing it here and loved how it stood out against the dark color. I've never been one to think of pairing pink with maroon, but I kind of fell in love with the combo.

Do you have any unexpected color combos that you love?

Make a Statement

Dress: Bailey Blue (old)  Shoes: Target  Necklace: Stella and Dot  Watch: c/o The Watch Company  Bracelet: Stella and Dot

As you can see, yesterday was quite a humid morning here in DC. (I apologize for the picture quality.) I awoke to raindrops falling and very little inspiration for getting ready. One of my favorite ways to battle this lack of inspiration is to throw on a statement necklace. I love the way they steal the show when paired with a solid dress or top. I pulled out this old dress from my closet and instantly knew it was a perfect match. Plus, it was a great way to show off the details of the necklace with my hair pulled up away from my face.

What are your favorite ways to wear a statement necklace?
