Lazy Weekend

cozy weekend, slippers, pajamas, tea, scarf, robe, fashion blog, style blog

Robe/ Mug/ Slippers/ Nail Polish/ Pj Set/ Scarf/ Dress/ Slippers

Between staying up late, busy days and lots of meetings, this week has been nothing short of crazy. Because I know that this weekend is going to be a continuation of the craziness, I am already counting down the hours until next weekend when I can spend time curled up on my couch, in my new cozy robe (I know, I'm a grandma) and watch hours and hours of football.

Last weekend's cold rainy weather made me want to do nothing but lie around, but I had too many things on the agenda to sit around. Let's hope nothing gets in the way of a lazy weekend next week.

Bathroom Organization

While flipping through my latest issue of Real Simple magazine, I came across a few great organization tips (and some that I came up with on my own, thanks to their inspiration) and I wanted to share a two of my favorites today on the blog. When choosing a room to tackle first, I knew my bathroom was the least organized and decided it was the first and best place for me to start.

Number One: Bobby Pins
Every girl knows how impossible it is to keep track of bobby pins... until now. I had an extra magnetic knife rack lying around in my kitchen because when my parents' bought me my new knife set last year, it came with a knife block and this thing was quickly thrown in a drawer. I decided to give it a new life and use it as a bobby pin holder in my bathroom, right below my mirrors. Now, I'll never have to hunt for bobby pins again. They are easy to find and easy to store. The magnets hold them in place so they don't end up on the floor... or in the trash, at the bottom of my purse or on random windowsills throughout the house.

Number Two: Nail Polish
I have been storing my nail polish like this for awhile now. Spice racks are fabulous for repurposing for nail polish racks and they are easy to find at garage sales and on CL. I grabbed this one a couple of years ago for $10 and spray painted it black. While it is pretty heavy, I love the way it looks and shows off all my nail polish at the same time. It is pretty and functional-- can't beat that!

Summer Nails

summer nails

One of my favorite things about summer is all of the bright nail polish that you can finally pull out. Whether you are staying in town or heading out of town for a weekend getaway, all things are better with fun nail polish. Some of my current favorites are bright yellow and bright blue. I can't seem to get enough and am always wearing some shade of the two. Although, right now I have been wearing a lot of my favorite Essie summer shade, Mod Squad. I think that bottom Deborah Lippmann color may be next on my list though!

Have a great weekend and make sure you enter my giveaway-- today is the last day!

Macys:

And my favorite gloss for this season, not on sale: Buxom lip cream in Cherry Flip.
Have you found any must-have beauty buys recently? I'd love to hear them in the comments!

Color Crush: Royal Blue

royal blue

I clearly followed the Friday's Fancies rule this week: highlight items you'd own if money were not an issue... because I think I can realistically only afford three of these items. The other items that I can't justify right now really inspire me to find look-a-likes. I cannot get enough of this jewel tone these days and find myself wanting to wear it daily. Did I mention my nails are currently this color? It's the perfect fall transition color.
What is your current color crush?

Five Things

As you may seen lately, this five things post (& tagging!) has been floating through the blogging world. Yesterday, Emily tagged me in her five things so I wanted to follow up and share a little bit more about myself here on my blog:

1. I have an obsession with nail polish. I am not really sure where it came from, but I have always been known to have quite a variety of colors. Back in college, I had a caboodle (yes, a glittery real-life caboodle) full of nail polish in the sorority house. Girls would come visit whenever they needed a new color and I love sitting around painting nails and chatting. Fast forward to today, I gave my Caboodle away when I moved to DC and I currently have over 100 bottles of nail polish and growing. I even bought five new bottles last week. Oops. As of right now, my favorite color in my collection is Disco Biscuit by Butter London.

2. Two of my good friends, Darci and Ashley, were the inspiration behind my blog. They both have amazing blogs about their families and reading them daily inspired me to start my blog a couple of years ago. I never really posted on my blog until last year (it was my New Years resolution) and I am so happy to see how far my blog has come since then. Thank you for always inspiring me ladies!

3. I am currently training for my first half marathon. I never thought I would sign up for anything so crazy. My mom has been a runner most of my life and in the past ten-ish years she has run many full and half marathons (and triathalons)! I always thought she was nuts but somehow she convinced me that signing up for the Nike Women's Half Marathon in DC was a good idea. We were going to run together until she ended up having surgery in February and can no longer run the race. I still think signing up for this race was one of the best things I have done in awhile. I feel like I am in better shape than ever before and cannot wait to cross the finish line with my friends in just a few weeks! Oh, and mom is still coming to visit. YAY!

4. My all time favorite food is popcorn and I recently discovered the best way to make it. A few months ago I was reading a magazine (I wish I could remember which one- it may have been Clean Eating) and I stumbled across a glass container you use in the microwave to pop popcorn. It is sold exclusively at Sur La Table and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great, healthy way to make popcorn. I like to make it with just a little bit of butter and some parmesan cheese and garlic powder. Sure, my way is not the healthiest way, but boy, is it delicious!

5. I bought a camera last year after deciding that I wanted to take better pictures for my blog. I impulsively bought a Nikon D3100 and had no clue how to even turn it on. Over the summer I took a photography class with my friend Leila and learned more about how to use my camera. I am so glad I took the class and learned the skills I did, but I really want to learn more about photography and hope to take more classes in the future. The one thing I recently learned is my camera is not compatible with the lenses I keep eying online. I do regret purchasing this camera without more research and hope to upgrade it within the next year. Here is one of my favorite photos from this past week:

I would like to tag Christine, Kristin, Tracy, Ashley and the ladies behind Ladies in Navy to post their five things.

Monday Giveaway

Last week, I mentioned that I wanted to do a new giveaway to beat the stormy weather. I woke up today and decided that a Monday is a fresh start to the week and a great day to announce the giveaway. Because burgundy is so popular right now, I am going to give away one of my favorite kinds of nail polish-- in burgundy!  This color is called "Lacy not Racy" and will compliment any fall outfit perfectly! To enter, fill out the rafflecopter box below.
Good luck!

*newspaper nails*

After many requests for a blog post, here is a picture of my newspaper nails. I think they will look better next time but they aren't too bad for my first try. Plus, I kind of heart them.

i heart winning

So… I entered my first ever blog contest… and WON!
I entered a contest at weheartthis and I won free nail polish. Woot woot.
I love me some nail polish.

Well, it arrived in the mail last night so I was inspired to try it out this morning.

I am not in love with the color but it's kinda fun for summer.
I am a much bigger fan of the black crackle, but oh well.
This is crushed candy. Not my favorite.

After this experience, I now know what I want to do. I want to work for a beauty blog. I learned that there are people that just test beauty products all the time. If I could do that, my life would be complete. I have no idea how to go about this, but you better believe I am going to reseach.

I love nail polish.
Clearly.
