Packing for a Week-long Trip

week long trip

With all of the travel I've been doing for work lately, I have come up with a few must-haves, especially for a week-long trip. Here are ten of my top picks:

1- iPad (+ a cute case). I mean, seriously. Where would I be without my iPad? It is pretty much all I use on the plane and it's great for catching up on blog posts, magazines and listening to music all at once. I currently have a hot pink case but am obsessed with this Kate Spade one.

2- Nail polish. While I find that many times before a trip I will schedule a nail appointment for a new shellac polish, it's always nice to carry a bottle with you in case of chips. Light colors are perfect for this because they don't show chips as easily. And, who doesn't love white nails in the summer?

3. Crop Top. Normally, I wouldn't say this is a must for a week-long trip but this versatile piece has really grown on me. It looks cute with skirts and can also be worn over a bathing suit to the pool or beach. I strongly recommend packing one of these bad boys for any trips this summer. Also, gold jewelry. You didn't think I would have an outfit post without it, did you?

4. Versatile skirts. This Kate Spade one is one of my absolute faves and seriously goes with 90% of my wardrobe. Having flexibility in the the pieces you pack is key to getting the most out of your limited suitcase. I am traveling to a few cities over the next week and pairing skirts with different shirts is going to be essential for my outfit success.

5. Dresses. Dresses. Dresses. I think most of what I pack when traveling is dresses because they are so easy to wear to work and out for drinks or dinner afterwards. Plus, they work well for casual weekend outings or playing tourist. It's no secret I've been loving navy this year and this dress is no exception. Plus, if you are sitting in cold conference rooms all day, this pairs well with a cute cardi.

6. A cute cardigan (or four). As I mentioned, many times conference rooms are cool while the temperatures outside are scorching. I highly recommend never leaving the house without a cardigan in your bag. You never know when you will need that extra layer. I am a huge fan of grey but I tend to always pack a black one and a white one just in case.

7. A clutch. For those nights that turn out to be a little later than just dinner. Always make sure you have one just in case. And who doesn't love a bright colored clutch to spice up the night?

8. A watch. I know that almost everyone relies on their cell phone for the time these days, but I am a huge fan of wearing a watch. Especially while flying. I am one of those people who counts down the minutes until I can get off the plane and it's much easier to watch the time creep by with a watch on my wrist. Plus, they are a great accessory.

9. A bathing suit. It's summer. Hotels have pools. This one is a no-brainer. Also, I am quite into leopard lately and have a bathing suit identical to this one.

10. Leather sandals. I have been living in my Sam Edelman pair this summer but wouldn't mind adding these Tory Burch lovelies to the mix. They match everything and look like they would really hold up. Leather sandals are a must for any major summer travel.

Anything else I should add to my list?

Night on the Town Challenge

night on the town challenge

I was so excited last week when Kendra reached out to me for a blogger challenge. She is heading to Las Vegas in a few weeks with a group of friends, and invited me to help me put together the wardrobe that will complement her travel plans. The idea was to include ideas for a night out at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino. She is a mom to three kids and doesn't always know what the latest trends are or how to dress for a night of gambling and fine dining. That's where I came in.

I wanted to find something a little more exciting than an LBD and this dress with the pop of neon is exactly what I had in mind. Something that is exciting to look at, yet still elegant so you can go from dinner to the club seamlessly. Also, the cut of this dress would be flattering on just about any body type. Of course, I wanted to dress everything up with gold, my favorite color to accessorize with. I kept it simple with black heels and a pair of foldable flats to throw on after a night of dancing.

What do you think? What would you suggest for Kendra?

Fashion for a Night in Vegas
Trendy fashions are a lot of fun, and I’ve noticed that I always have a better time when I feel cute and confident in the styles I choose to wear. I’m about to take a quick trip to Las Vegas to enjoy some grownup fun with a few friends, and I want to pick a great outfit. It is important to me that when I walk into one of these luxurious restaurants or hotels that I don’t look out of place. As the mom of three kids, I think I could use a little help coming up with an eye-catching style for stepping out on this exciting night on the town. Will you recommend a great look for me? To inspire your selections, here are some details about the place where I’ll be dining at the Bellagio.
Picasso
Few restaurants achieve a Five Diamond Award from AAA, but Picasso, featuring a menu from the brilliant mind of executive chef Julian Serrano, has won this distinction 13 times. The restaurant features a wine cellar stocked with over 1,500 fine selections from vineyards across Europe. The décor at Picasso lives up to the restaurant’s name and features several masterpieces from Pablo Picasso himself as well as a collection of ceramic sculptures from the Spanish master. Visitors to Picasso can dine indoors or enjoy their meals on the patio for a unique dining experience outdoors.
Sin City Style

No other city in the world has the style and passion of Las Vegas, a refreshing oasis in the middle of the Mojave Desert. I always have fun on a trip here, and I truly believe this city has something for everyone to enjoy. The shows here are second to none, and the dining experiences here are unlike dining experiences I’ve had anywhere else. Whatever I do during a trip to Sin City, I enjoy myself the  most when I feel comfortable and confident in the fashions I wear. I’m especially looking forward to the style recommendations you give for my big night in Las Vegas.

Stop and Smell the Roses

I think it would be an understatement to say things have been crazy around here over the past week. I decided to stay in my current job for an extra week to help out for our annual conference and it has really added more to my plate than I initially anticipated.

In the past week, I have given notice at my apartment, shown the apartment to prospective renters, found out that my property management company is going to come in April 1st and do a complete remodel, canceled the cable, booked a trip to New Jersey (for this week), packed everything in my house (except a few clothes and my non-perishable food in the pantry), signed a contract with a moving company and more. I never realized how stressful a cross-country move was when trying to balance a full-time job, a blog and more.

Because I have chosen to stay in DC an extra week, I had to figure out where to live for a week as I have to be out of my house on the 31st. The moving company is coming to pick everything up, including my car, that morning. I have a hotel room set and I think everything is finally coming together. Not to mention, I finally found a house in Nevada and cannot wait to move in. Um, did I mention how CUTE it is?

Yesterday afternoon, while taking a break from this crazy packing life, I wandered around Nordstrom and saw this bangle staring at me. It's the cutest rose gold Kate Spade bangle that says "stop and smell the roses". I think it's a perfect reminder right now that although everything is extremely crazy, I need to take the time to "smell the roses" as I finish up my last 12 days here in DC.

Blinged Out

blinged out: gold edition
Watch: Michael Kors    Bracelet: Ben Amun  Earrings: Tuckernuck  Glasses Bracelet: Kate Spade  Rings: Z Designs  Earrings: American Apparel  Necklace: Oliver Bonas

The theme for today's Friday's Fancies link-up: bling bling. Lately, I cannot seem to get enough gold in my life. I wear gold jewelry everyday, I have a gold glitter iPhone case, I just recently got a new gold keychain, etc. I am not sure where my gold obsession came from-- I used to HATE gold. Now, I don't think I could ever go back to wearing silver non-stop.
The images above are all gold pieces I would love to own within the next six months. They are all pretty affordable and would add so much to my collection.
As Alison asked yesterday, do you prefer gold or silver?

Summer Stripes

Top: Banana Republic  Shorts: Banana Republic  Watch: Michael Kors  Shoes: Jessica Simpson  Ring: Stella and Dot  Necklace: Stella and Dot  Bracelet: Vintage  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Blue and white stripes are one of my favorite summer looks. I chose this casual outfit for an afternoon of running errands and then heading over to a friend's house in the city for some champagne on the patio. I normally would have gotten a little more dressed up for an evening out but it was so hot all weekend and after a full week of dressing up for work, I really wanted some shorts and sandals in my life. I love how comfortable shorts can be! I used to hate shorts but recently began loving them-- too bad I can only wear them a few days a week.

Mint Clutch

Top: Ann Taylor Similar Style  Shorts: Abercrombie and Fitch  Shoes: Steve Madden  Clutch: Gigee Marie  Bracelets: Stella and Dot  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

With the high temperatures we have had the past few days, I have had very little motivation, especially because I have had the week off work. I have spent most of this week laying around, running errands and taking care of Brad after surgery. It has been a very relaxing week but I am excited to get back into a routine next week.
A couple of weeks ago I ordered a clutch online from Gigee Marie. I found her website through the CapFABB network and was so excited when I stumbled upon it. I saw this bag in mint and knew I had to have it. I think it can go with just about anything-- I love it!
Hope you are staying cool this weekend!
