With Labor Day just around the corner, it's time to start thinking about transitioning to fall clothing (yay!) and starting to put the summer clothes back in the closet until next year. One of my favorite pieces of clothing for the cooler months is my J.Crew leather jacket so it should come as no surprise that it's the first thing I am pulling out this year. It is such a great staple for transitioning as it is great for layering and warmth during those cooler nights. A leather jacket and a light scarf scream fall to me and I can't wait to keep wearing this combo as we head into September and October.

Are Aviators Really All That?

Okay, serious question: what is all of the hype about aviator sunglasses?

Sure, everyone says they flatter every face shape and they go with every type of outfit, but, c'mon, am I the only one that disagrees? Not matter how many (millions of) pairs I try on, I can never seem to find a pair that flatters my face. I bought this pair years ago at a gas station for about $8 and never wear them because I think that every photo I take in them turns out awful. I can't stand seeing aviators on my face.

I know what you're thinking: just wear other sunglasses, right? Well, I do, but I really want to make aviators work. I love they way they look on everyone else but I just can't seem to pull them off.

So ladies, is it true, are aviators really the BEST shape for every face? If so, what brand? Maybe the millions ones I've tried are just all the wrong ones.

You know those weekends that are just kind of great when looking back at them? Well, this past weekend was one of them. My weekend was full of ice skating, bowling, crafting, pho, interviewing potential roommates, shopping, sushi and late night laughs. I don't think I could have asked for a better unplanned 3-day weekend.

Classic Leather

So often I forget about my leather jacket hanging in my closet and every time I rediscover it it feels like Christmas. I have loved this jacket since day one and always forget about it when leaving the house. I think the cold temperatures have me reaching for down jackets and extra layers these days and I always forget how warm this coat really is.

I wore this jacket out this past weekend and was surprisingly pretty warm. Pairing it with this scarf was a perfect way to stay warm without layers upon layers.

Leather and (Faux) Fur

Top: J.Crew  Skirt: Kensie similar here  Tights: Target  Shoes: Nine West  Jacket: J.Crew similar here  Scarf: gifted similar here  Bracelets: Alex and Ani here and here and Stella and Dot here and here  Watch: Michael Kors  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban  Nail Polish: Essie A Cut Above

Leather: I love it. Faux leather: I love it. Faux fur: well, I love it too.

Putting this outfit together could not have been more fun. The faux leather on the skirt mixed with the real leather of the jacket was a fun & unexpected combo that I instantly fell for. Plus, the addition of this old scarf was a great way to totally change the look of this jacket and an some extra warmth during the polar vortex.

I'd never really thought about how this simple faux fur scarf can add so much to an outfit and I am so glad I rediscovered it while I was home for the holidays. It's going to be a new staple in my wardrobe for the next few (freezing) weeks.

This past Saturday I was so excited to finally attend my first Southern Blog Society meet-up at Greenhill Winery. I had the opportunity to meet other DC/VA bloggers and get to know some wonderful ladies. We started the day with mimosas and bagels in our van from Reston Limo and it was the perfect way to get to know these ladies, most of whom I'd never met before.
When we arrived at the winery, we were shown the barrel room and then went outside for our tasting. It was quite a windy day but the gas heaters really made a difference. After selecting our favorites, and making some purchases, we walked down to the historic club house to sit by the fireplace and enjoy our wines. After a few hours, we jumped back in the van, finished our wines and landed back in DC.

I could not have asked for a more fun Saturday full of wine, laughs and fabulous outfits. I am already looking forward to the next SBS event!

Huge thanks to Lacey for the wonderful outfit photos!

Leather Jacket

Top: Banana Republic  Jacket: J.Crew Other colors available  Sunglasses: Gas Station Similar Style  Jeans: JOE'S  Shoes: Guess  Necklaces: Stella and Dot  Ring: Stella and Dot

For the longest time, I have been dying to own a black leather jacket. I think they are so versatile and are incredibly timeless. I have seen so many different versions lately and was so happy when I finally found one in (real) leather in my size. I have been anxiously awaiting warm weather so I could pair it with a girly dress, but because the weather has not been cooperating, I had to go another route.
There is something about a leather jacket, jeans and a pair of aviators that I love. It reminds me of Hollywood: a little bit of glam and a little bit of edge.
What is your favorite way to wear a leather jacket?
